And Now Fibromyalgia

Today's visit with physical medicine took a rather unexpected turn. The doc I saw did a lengthy history and review of all the testings I've had done over the past several years since my migraines got out of control and, of course, a physical exam. Then she asked if any doctor had ever talked with me about Fibromyalgia before. It has never been suggested by anyone I've seen but my pain situation has certainly been changing over the past year and so perhaps it wasn't until now that someone took a wide look at what's going on and had enough pieces to the puzzle.

She was convinced after her exam and history that I also have Fibromyalgia now.

This is new.

I guess for now I'm just going to sit with the new diagnosis and as time permits I'll start doing research about it. The physical med doc I saw recommended that I go through their 3 day fibro clinic to learn more about it and learn about how it is effecting me and how to manage it better. They don't have an opening until July so I'll come back later and do that.

Honestly, I'm just a little overwhelmed right now. I was overwhelmed before this news with all the moving and such, but now. Well I don't quite know what to think.

  1. Ah honey, I'm sorry it's fibro...but I knew it was something like that...your symptoms have been leaning toward something strangely autoimmune sounding. I think Lyrica is the med they use for Fibro now, and I've heard is does help. I haven't checked out the side effects, but they can't possibly be as bad as a full blown Fibro attack. I hope you never find out what a full body attack is like. You are always in my thoughts.
Take care, and I'm glad you do finally have some answers at least.

  2. Oh my. Not what you expected to hear at all. That can be so disorienting! My pain specialist did not go as far as saying that I have Fibromyalgia, but she did suggest that a trial of Lyrica would help her to determine a definite yes or no. I'm still trying to see how the Botox is working, so I told her I didn't want to mess up that assessment with a new drug.

  3. Yeah, Della, you've called it for sure.
It was interesting because I went into the appt focused on addressing my muscle relaxer refill issues and was taken by surprise when it took a different turn. Sue, you are exactly right, it was disorienting.

  4. So sorry for the diagnosis. My dad has fibro and my parents suspect I have it (mild/beginning stages), but I've avoided the exam. I hope this turns into a blessing for you; maybe you'll be able to try treatments that will end up helping your migraines too. You never know.
