Got Botox

My Mayo appointments have come to an end for this trip. To say that it has been help would be an understatement.

I spent 3 days doing the Fibro Class. During this time I learned a great deal about Fibromyalgia and in doing so I feel like I now understand so much of what has been going on with me these past several years. I got great ideas on how to start making changes that have been studied and shown to be effective in most patients.

I will start sharing what I learned and my journey when I get home and have a chance to start going through all of the materials and formulate a plan on how to move forward.

This morning I got to sit down with my migraine doc. He made arrangements and within a half hour I was on a table getting Botox injections. Quite unexpected. I knew I wanted it and I knew I was going to try to get worked in, but I wasn't expecting it to happen that day. The docs really can make anything happen in a place like that and I'm so thankful he chose to use his MD powers to help me today.

While it's never fun to get injections, after it was over I really didn't feel any different. I didn't have any negative reaction. He told me that it would take 7 - 10 days before I really would feel any effect and that it could take a month or two before I really know if it is preventing any migraines.

Can't wait. I really hope this is going to be my ticket to less migraine pain. Plus, I'm very hopeful and confident that I can make some behavior changes that will impact how much the Fibromyalgia impacts my days.

  1. Definately takes a week to see or feel results. You'll wake up and know when it has "set in" because you will not be able to move your forehead! I love it! I am sooo angry right now about my scheduled botox appt that was supposed to be on Sept 19th. I got a call saying Aetna will no longer cover my botox because of my recent hospitalization for status migrainosus. As far as they're concerned...the treatment must not be working so they will no longer cover it. Funny thing is, I was in the hospital for my left arm and leg numbness and weakness, which I do not believe has anything to do with migraine. So basically my dr screwed me out of any further Botox by putting that as my diagnosis.

  2. I am so very glad to hear this! I'll be rooting for you. I hope this is an end to the migraines!

I'm also interested to know what you learned in Fibro class. My docs haven't ever explained anything to me...I have relied on Google.

  4. Oh Jessica, I'm so sorry to hear that this awful experience in the hospital continues to cause you problems. Don't you wish you could go back and tell this doc what he put you through and make him now pay for the Botox since it is his fault you can't get it now. How very frustrating.

I'll definately keep you ladies posted on both fronts.

  5. I had a botox treatment too and the full result of my treatment was visible after 9 days.
But I didn't panic right after the treatment because my doctor form the best botox clinic in Toronto told me that I have to wait for the full effect of the treatment up to 2 weeks....
It's very important to have an experienced doc taking care of you because even if the procedure seems to be easy that's not entirely true.
