Question

Watching shows like The Doctors and Dr Oz I've noticed that many of the symptoms I experience are mentioned when they talk about various disease states. Symptoms like dizziness, fatigue, various aches and pains are all generic symptoms that can show up in all kinds of illnesses. While I'm confident that right now my symptoms are due to my chronic migraines and Fibromyalgia I sometimes worry that someday, if something else is going on I won't take it seriously because it's normal for me to feel symptoms.

Thankfully I don't obsess about it and this worry only comes up while watching these shows and then quickly goes away. A big part of me believes my body will find a way to let me know if something were to come up.

Do you ever think about this? Does it ever worry you? Have you ever experienced something and thought it was just part of your chronic issues and had it turn out to be something else?

  1. I have a lot of pain with my lining of my lungs so I am used to this. I almost died from a blood clot in my lung because I dismissed the extra pain. I think the biggest thing is that if there is a lot of extra pain, don't dismiss it because it could be something much very serious that is not a part of the chronic illnesses. Thankfully, my mother was much more intune to me and my illnesses than I was. She insisted that I go to the hospital and get checked out. She was also the one who went to the nurses station to complain that 4 hours later, I had not seen a doctor or had anything for pain.

  2. Yes, I wonder sometimes how I would know if I was having a brain aneurysm or something that has a bad headache as a symptom. I've even asked my doc about this and he said you wouuld know. I'm thinking how does he know? Like you, i hope and pray I would have the instinct to know I needed to seek emergency care. As we know, there is only so much we can control.
